the farm
Approximately 1/3 of the arable area is used for wheat seed production. 4 varieties are currently being grown for seed breeders KWS. This produce will then be processed before being sold to other farmers to grow commercial crops. A further 1/3 of the area is used growing grass for seed. Currently this is being grown for Barenburg seeds and the variety is a high quality amenity variety used on golf course greens (That's lucky as we also have a golf course here!). The final 1/3 is currently split between the production of Borage grown for its oil and Quinoa grown for seed production used in wild bird food mixes. Over 10% of the farm arable area is specifically managed for environmental benefit to enhance and improve biodiversity in the area. Areas not suitable for crop production are down to permanent grass which is let for sheep grazing.
